I'm wondering if there are any safe scent deterrents for cats? I have electrical and other wires/cords enclosed in plastic tubing covers to prevent chewing and I turn off/unplug and stow away electronics when I leave the room but my foster kittens still sometimes like to bat the plastic tubing around and try to chew them. Is there a safe scent deterrent I could spray on the covers to gently discourage them from inappropriate chewing/playing? I think I remember that cats don't like citrus or peppermint, but I want to be sure that it won't do them any harm, either.

Bitter Apple spray is made specifically for pets who chew on things so it's safe to use as long as you follow the directions.

Maybe a safe rubbery chewable toy like a Kitty Kong will be more appealing :)

bitter apple spray. thanks!!

Yes! I have plenty of chew toys to redirect them to. :) The scent is more for when I am not there (or busy working and unable) to redirect them, that they might learn not to play with these things.
