We recently adopted a beautiful kitty with ringworm on his scalp which we've been treating topically but the results have not been encouraging. Our vet prescribed Itraconazole Soft Chews (chicken flavor) to be given once daily, one week on and one week off for three weeks of medication. My question regards the best way to introduce this to him. He normally gets a 5.5 oz can of various flavored soft food and about a quarter cup of Hills Dental kibble daily, and he eats almost every bit. Should we hand-feed the chews or put them on top of or mixed in with one of his normal foods? This stuff is expensive but we have a few more than we need.

I would hand feed them between meals, mainly to make sure he eats them. They can get hidden in food. If he refuses, then you could wrap a piece of cooked bacon around them or push them into a small amount of cheese.

Hi! If the above doesn't work, and the chews can be smashed up, put it in a dish and then add just enough water from canned tuna/chicken to thoroughly mix it with -or, you can even mix it with a small piece of the tuna or chicken. Once he laps it up, or eats it all gone, give him a piece of the tuna or chicken as a treat afterward.
