Hi All,

My 2 kitties are strictly indoor cats but now that summer is here, This is the first summer I have them. I have a 1 1/2 yro and a 4month kitten. I'm thinking about fleas and mosquitos and heartworm and such.

Do I need Revolution or something else for prevention? My vet had given me a sample of revolution in the winter but I never used it. I didn't really ask her about prevention at the time, I didn't think I would need it. But sometimes flies and insects do get in the house in the summer so now I'm concerned.

Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks

I have indoor cats, and we use Revolution. We can bring in fleas, ticks, etc. from outside on our shoes and clothes and they can also come in through the screens.

My boyfriend says his parents have never used preventative stuff on their cats and have never had a problem, but his parents don't go outside much and they always use air conditioning, never open windows. A coworker of mine who lives in the area once got a flea infestation even though his cats are strictly indoor cats, so I think it's better for us to be safe than sorry. (Though the BF continues to scoff.)

From what I understand, Revolution offers the most comprehensive protection against fleas, ticks, heart worm, etc. It can only be gotten through a vet, however, as it is "prescription-only". If your vet has seen your cats within the last year- as it sounds like is the case- you can probably just stop by and buy it no problem, though do call ahead first. Advantage is also generally recommended for cats by vets, but it is not as comprehensive and is almost as expensive.

And always make sure you use the preventative stuff for cats, not dogs.

It's our first summer with our kitties too. :)

Thanks!

Does anyone know if there's an online site that i can buy the revolution without a prescription? I'm going to call the vet, but my guess is that it would be cheaper online.

ETA With prescription, does anyone know the cheapest online site to buy revolution?

Thanks

The-price,depends-on-the-weight-of-the-cat.5-15-lbs-is-$49.49-for-a-3-pack.15-22-lbs-is-$53.99-for-a-3-pack.

I-am-thinking,the-3-pack,means-there-is-3-doses-in-there.They-also-have-a-6-pack,and-that-price-is-higher.

I-use-Revolution-and-I-highly-recommend-it.I-had-one-kitten-that-had-ear-issues,he-was-sent-to-a-specialist,he-couldn't-figure-it-out-either.I-didn't-like-the-guy-anyhow.My-vet-said,well,lets-try-Revolution.They-all-got-dosed.Whatever-was-wrong,it-fixed-it.

I would check your vet's price before you get this. I got 8 doses from my vet for 5-15 lb cats for $95, which is cheaper than the website.

Thanks, My vet gave me some samples of Advantage Multi. I found out that it may be about the same price as online because they have some kind of special deal. I think buy a 6pack get 2 free.

I really think this depends on your area and your kitties. I'm not a big fan of preventative medicine "just in case." All medicines have side effects. I have never treated for fleas, ticks, heartworm or mites despite my cat being allowed outside in the past. I have also heard that healthy raw fed cats are much more resistant to fleas.

In your situation, I would call your vet and find out which are issues in your area and treat appropriately.
