For reasons too boring to go into I need to repackage 4 of my 12oz bags of raw into one larger portion.

Would it be safe to thaw and then refreeze or is this a no-no?

I'm not aware of any bad effects of doing that. I think people refreeze their raw ground meat all the time... can't really feed 30 lbs of meat in 2-3 days (the longest you should leave meat in the refrigerator). I do that with my commercial raw too. Freeze, thaw, take out about 15 oz to put in the refrigerator and refreeze until i need to do it again.

All you risk with re-refreezing is some nutrient loss due to cell damage. Of course, the same principles of safety apply as to thawing and refreezing in the first place as re: spoilage.
