Reddened scrapes on both carpal pads? Is this cause for concern?

Hi everyone,

So we just adopted a 5-month old kitten yesterday and he is an absolute wild beast full of energy. We even named him Taz. Sneakily using his nap time, we were clipping his nails to conserve our own skins and I noticed this on both of the pads just above his front paws. They look like scrapes, perhaps from his endless insanity all over our carpets. Anyhow, we have no experience with kittens so I figured I'd just check if this was worth worrying over? Do they get such scrapes from playing around? It feels like a pretty solid pad. Can this get infected from his litter box?

Congrats on your new kitten!  I'm not sure if this could get infected or not from the litter.  I'm thinking it may be high enough up the leg that it will be ok, but just keep an eye on it to make sure.
