I thought her tongue was hanging out but after looking closer, it's a big, red pimple type thing. It's just outside her bottom lip. She's eating right now, so I don't think it's bothering her too much. Any ideas?
No behavior change at all. Her appetite is fine, just scarfed up a bowl of canned food. She's nursing 2, 4-week old babies now, taking care of the kittens just fine. They all did have URI's when they got here, done with the meds last week. She did just get a booster shot last Thursday, maybe a reaction that I'm just noticing?
If it's a pimple type thing, it may be an ingrown hair, or even a pimple. If it gets any worse or doesn't seem better in a day or two, you might want to get her in to the vet.
If this does not go away in a reasonably short time, please see a vet.
That being said, I've had that happen to me twice with one particular cat of mine.
The first time, it was actually a reaction to her plastic food and water bowls. Some cats are allergic to plastic. Once I changed to metal, glass or porcelain bowls, it went away.
She got it again a few years later. I had just moved to a new apartment, where there was new carpeting. It seems there is something in new rugs, carpeting and/or the padding that many cats are allergic to, and that was just a waiting game until whatever that chemical was sort of worked its way out and dissipated, and the rash went away after a few weeks.
But if neither of those are the situation, then watch, and if it doesn't go away or gets bigger, see a vet.
