My boyfriend got a phone message today from a mutual friend about her mom's cat that needs to be rehomed. Before we could call her back, she called again tonight.
Here is the story I managed to extract:
The cat- Zoe - is a 5 year old DLH tortie that her mom has had since kittenhood. The mom is getting on in years and is facing knee replacement surgery that will put her out of circulation for a couple of months.
Mom - we will call her R - also has a small dog. Zoe is an indoor cat; doggie is indoor/outdoor. This summer, doggie brought in fleas and infested the cat, the house, etc.
OK- they get the flea issue cleared up. But their solution -if you want to call it that- was to BANISH THE CAT TO THE GARAGE - IN A CAGE!
She has been in there for 3 months!!!
Now they have decided it's "best" for Zoe to be rehomed. Oh and R is going out of town for a week starting on Oct. 11 .... so it would be good for the cat to be gone by then.
Also cuz it's getting cold out. Duh!
Oh, and they are keeping the dog because she barks and they live in Detroit and she is a kind of alarm. She is also old, 8-9 years. Double
The daughter doesn't want to take the cat to a shelter, for fear she will be PTS. Uh, ye-ahhh.
I told her to send me detailed info including vet/health and some pics. Told her to send out a mass email to everyone she knows - all the clubs and activities she's involved in, etc.
I am so upset that they banished the cat, that she has been stuck in a
cage for 3 months in a garage during all this hot weather... I am tempted to go over there with a carrier and take her!! I have NO place to put her and adoptions have just about dried up with the rescue I am with. Kittens are growing up in foster care!! Aaarrrgggghhhhhh!!!!
Sorry - I just had to vent. People are so stupid. And thoughtless. Why punish the cat??? Huh?? The dog brought in the fleas! Not like it was intentional!
I liked this person, but she has just dropped several notches in my esteem. The mom has always struck me as nutty and self-absorbed. Poor kitty-cat.
