I tend to pay for all but very small purchases with a debit card. I only use the credit card for emergencies. I do occasionally use a credit card to keep the account active. I usually use my debit card like an ATM card when I get weekly groceries and get 20 or 30 dollars cash out for small purchases. When that's gone then it's gone until I do my weekly shopping. I have gotten much better with cash, I usually have money left at the end of the week. Before the debit cards got so versatile and widely accepted I carried a lot more cash. I had a tendency to spend money and not know where it went.
I use credit for most things other than small purchases - like my daily lunch/breakfast while at work. I find it's easier to keep track of where my money goes. Also at the end of the year the credit card company puts together a yearly snapshot of all my purchases. Very helpful to see where I spent more than necessary since I do have a budget in mind for nearly everything.
DH and I never carry cash. I always pay debit for everything. DH seems to have an aversion to using debit, he seems to think that if he uses debit for his purchases he is screwing us over for bills and putting us in the poor house?
So, instead of me giving him cash when he wants something, He has a credit card with a set limit and he can use it however he wants and I just pay it off.
I prefer to use credit card because it's easier than cash and I get rewards for it. I usually use cash for fast food places though or if it's just a dollar or two. I pay most cards off each month, but I have one that has the vet stuff and other home emergency repairs on it that I have to try to whittle down.
I used to prefer cash so I could feel the tangible loss of money as I paid, but now I live in an area where I may very well get mugged at any time of day so I seldom carry cash on me unless I'm going to cash-only places that I already know. I prefer to use credit - I have one card for "sketchy" internet purchases and one card for other purchases. The latter gets me Moneyback though.
I use a credit card for almost everything. I hardly ever carry cash, maybe $5 and it'll stay in my wallet a long time. Except I try not to pay small businesses with cards because they have to pay a fee, so I make an effort to have cash or a check if I'm goingto a small business. Walmart can pay all the fees . I don't like to use debit because I don't want to have to worry about whether I transferred enough into the checking account, etc. With a credit card I only have to worry about it once a month. My credit card gets cash back too .
i use my debit card for everything. that way if my purse was ever stolen or i lost it all i do is call the number and have it immediately cancelled. My mom gets so mad at me...she will always say "how can you walk around with not even a dollar!!! I explain to her that i just rather pay with my card.
