I'm a touch typist. I took typing in 7th grade on an old IBM electric. That was in the 60's. I've never been timed, but I'm not too slow. If I look at my fingers, it really messes me up!

My parents bought me a typewriter when I was ten years old. I got a book from the library and taught myself to type. Then I took a typing class in junior high school. I didn't use typing on any of my jobs so I didn't type much until I got a computer in 2000. I was surprised that I was still pretty good. I don't have to look at the keyboard except when I type the symbols and the keys that aren't on a typewriter. I'm not very fast but I am accurate.

I took typing and stenography all through high school and after graduation worked for three years as a legal secretary before starting college. So, yes, I was an excellent, fast typist. I don’t remember the speed but I think it was 90 something WPM. Cant type anywhere that fast anymore and my accuracy is crap but it doesn’t make much difference now.

I took 10 weeks of typing in high school in a course called Introduction To Occupations. I can type pretty fast without looking at the keyboard. 40 words per minute was what my teacher said. We didn't have time to learn all the keys. We didn't learn the number keys and some of the punctuation, so I have to look at those.

I type primarily with my right hand and am moderately fast. I have never checked my speed; however, considering how I used to procrastinate with large assignments and push them out in a night, I think I can say that I am not exactly slow! Thank goodness for that! I do not need to look and can talk to someone as I type.

I took a typing class in 7th grade and I hated it, but it was definitely the one class that has been incredibly beneficial in life. I'm a touch typist and don't need to look at the keys or the screen while typing. I'm kind of slow though in comparison to other touch typists. I average about 65 WPM. My problem is that I know when I've made a mistake even if I'm not looking at the screen, so anytime I take a typing test, I try to fix my mistakes and it makes my average slower. Plus, I get nervous being timed.

So I got my masters in Astrophysics, with a minor in computer programming (really wanted to work for NASA, until they had their budget cut and retired the shuttle program), so I had a lot of typing experience. However, my dad was an IT specialist, so I learned to type when I was 5, working on DOS with the lovely black screen and bright green letters 🤣

Typing was a required class in high school and I took to it naturally. My teacher gave me a referral to my first summer job working in the legal dept. of an insurance company as a secretary, (now called administrative asst.). I tested at 120 wpm and use all my fingers without looking at the keyboard. My favorite cousin was a high school business teacher and I really looked up to her. Although I didn't exactly follow in her footsteps I did go into education and typing definitely came in handy.

Good question! Lol I love the sound of an old typewriter and used to be very efficient on one. Then electric typewriters came along. Wow! Very cool. Then, keyboards! :banana2: I took typing in school but the keyboards now are nearly silent. Lol I miss the tapping, zing of the return and ding of the bells! Next was texting on a flip phone. I was pretty fast and used both thumbs. Now I am on a phone with a tiny screen and I have vision problems. Spell check plays terrible practical jokes on me since I watch the screen keyboard these days. I still use multiple fingers and have managed a fairly long thread on this thing but if I went back to a computer keyboard it would take re adjusting. I find that I adjust and become faster over time but will never have the abilities I did when I was younger. Still, I enjoy writing on whatever is available. Typos and all. Fortunately, most people are amused by or forgiving of my embarrassing typos.

I also learned touch typing in the 9th grade on a manual (not an electric) typewriter. My first office job was as a typist (on a manual) for the federal government. We made multiple carbon copies (did you know that's what the CC: notation is for?) because there was only one very rudimentary copier in the whole building and you had to go up the chain of command to get anything copied. I got pretty fast that summer.

I don't have to look at anything to type, but usually look at the screen or the copy I am typing. When computers came in, I typed faster, and I usually typed in the high 70s.

My dad began as a reporter, so he typed a lot. He only used his index fingers and was very fast. I'd guess he typed, on a manual, 40-50 wpm. I have his first typewriter, and also his father's, who was a lawyer 120 years ago.

I type with my fingers on my left and right hand, but more with my right. And I have to look at the keyboard every now and then.
Not a very fast typist. I learned by myself.
