I have a sonic toothbrush. It doesn't go up and down or spin, just vibrates a lot. I use it just like a manual toothbrush but it buzzes too, and apparently that loosens the plaque? I'm a little sketchy on the details, lol. Anyway it seems to work better than a manual toothbrush alone.
I've been using a sonic one since January, on the advice of my dentist and dental hygienist. I find it's made a difference in the amount of plaque.

Manual- Colgate 360 is the only one that is soft enough for my teeth. Electric toothbrushes are way too harsh!
