Question About Expiration Dates.

I recently purchased a container of potato salad at the supermarket and the expiration date is August 30. How long after this date is it safe to eat this product? Also, in general, how long can food safely be eaten after the packaging lists a certain date???

If it's stored in an airtight container in the fridge it should last 3-5 days after the expiration date.
