Hi
Our 11 yr old "Kit" has went from 9lbs to 4.4lbs in 2 years time.
This all started when she lost her 6 year companion to cancer. we then brought in another
friend for her, and the new cat (female) was very aggressive, and within 2 weeks we had to separate them. kit started vomiting a few times a week, and became dehydrated on numerous occasions after this, and trips to the vet could not find anything wrong.
she eventually stayed hydrated and started eating normally again, but the vomiting was a twice a week thing.just liquid....
in march 2012 she was down to 6.2 lbs. and now 4.4 lbs.
during this time she has seen our vet, and a specialist. No thyroid / diabetes or anything that would point out cancer. everything normal.
I should point out that she has a good appetite, and her stools are very normal through all of this.
Today at the vet the blood work showed high white blood cell count 42000... and very low protein.
everything else in normal range.
Tomorrow they will do a urine culture & tests for bladder or kidney infect. and if this is normal, an abdominal ultra-sound would be next.
She purrs but just seems uncomfortable, and is becoming very thin.
our vet mentioned feline infectious peritonitis, which she could of had for quite some time, and could be affecting her now. there is no test for this, however
We love her dearly, and was wondering if anyone had any input or experience with this puzzling ailment?
It hard to believe stress could be the cause of this.
Thank-you
Annie
