I brought home my new baby, Pecan on Monday and have been inspecting her and picking at her frequently to make sure that she's clean. Unfortunately, she did come to me with fleas (I discovered quickly at home after inspecting and finding flea dirt). I have some questions about dealing with this.

I'm reluctant/not wanting to do any actual flea treatments/medications just yet. I do intend to bathe her though, and I was wondering if anyone has any recommended shampoos/soaps that can be used?

I presently have a bottle of 'original' palmolive, and a bottle of Mane & Tail (and body). I know the second is pet safe, however I've seen mixed 'reviews' regarding the pet-safety of palmolive. My intention was to dilute the palm olive heavily, do a quick 'wetting'/coating of the diluted mixture, then wash it off with the Mane and Tail. Does that seem like a safe way to go about it?

I've been using a flea comb to get bugs, but the flea dirt is kind of gross and if I can get rid of some of the fleas while washing away the flea dirt that would be ideal to me.

The regular blue Dawn soap is safe to use. Can you buy a bottle?

You still want to use as little soap as possible and rinse thoroughly with warm water. Dry throughly and keep the kitten warm and out of drafts until the fur is completley dry to prevent hypothermia. Don't use hair dryer or anything. It's too easy to accidentally burn a pet even on a low setting.

Awesome, thank you. I gave her a bath earlier with just a little bit of the mane and tail and kept her bundled up until her fur was mostly dry, then let her do her own thing once her feet were completely dry. She's doing great now. Still a bit itchy but not as crusty feeling haha.

I did the soap along with a flea comb. Also treated with frontline spray on my kitten. Seemed to all work really well for him.

Capstar works on little kitties. You can give half of a pill to kittens under 4 pounds to save money, although it's safe to give a whole pill if you don't want to bother to split one. Works great, and it's very satisfying to see the dead fleas dropping off, lol.
