Man I'm glad I stuck to my guns. I'm having to titrate myself by sectioning out the powder (decided I didn't feel like dealing with the office and pharmacy background tells me this is fine) and he's down to 25 mg twice a day. I know it's not his pee cause he isn't licking himself like he used to but he is so agitated haha. He settles down for a few pets on my lap but otherwise he's a little twitchy and hides sometimes if he gets overstimulated. Cannot believe any vet would recommend a cat on 200 mg/day just stop cold turkey. Nu uh. I'm just glad the prozac side effects seemed to chill out before I started weaning him. My poor baby. We'll see if he even stays on prozac; if he's still antisocial after he's been off the gabapentin for a few weeks and it's been 2+ months on the prozac I might call about taking him off it. ;w; But I'm just kinda staying steadfast for now cause I know he's going through a lot of not fun changes even for humans.

Figured I'd pop in and update, hope my struggles can help someone else.

He started scaring me again with the crying and the licking so while I've got him scheduled with that cat clinic that's not until June so I took him in. Another aspect of this office I'm not going to miss is the likelihood of him getting approached by large dogs who scare him a lot.

His urine is good! His anal glands are good! I was told the amount of food he's on is also good, he's back down to 15.2 lbs from 16. Only new advice I got is to maybe split up his miralax doses to be 1/8 tsp twice a day instead of just the 1/4 once a day so I'm doing that. They're advising him to stay on the prozac for now, and I think the line that got me is the mention of "not wanting to resort to widening his urethra yet." quoting that his weight is why the skin rolls in that little hole in the first place. So hopefully the continued weight loss works out, but I'm definitely looking forward to a second opinion. I swear if it turns out his surgery was botched I'm going to lose my mind so help me.

Hello!

I'm new to your thread, and I also have a cat that has had a difficult PU surgery aftermath, but more with the new plumbing arrangement than the actual peeing portion. I wanted to ask a few questions, does your kitty have FIC? If his urine is good, yet he's still acting bothered and struggling to pee, that sounds a lot like it. Is that why he's on the Prozac? Does he have stricture of his new urethra, if they're mentioning widening his urethra? The specialist I went to told me that further surgey on my boy's urethra area wouldn't be possible, and that he'd have to create a new one on the lower abdomen. I'm not sure if that's a case by case thing though.

I'm a hundred percent sure the he only thing that helped my boy with his FIC is the surgery, cornsilk, and cantharis, no med kept it away longer than a week, and prozac caused him to have urinary retention. He lived on gabapentin, buprenorphine, and antibiotics for months before the surgery and I started his current routine.

Sorry if these are things you've already answered or aren't relevant to your troubles, I just want to see if I could think of anything from my experiences that could give you some help. I know the dread and mental drain that takes it's toll on the kitty and everybody involved with this kind of stuff too well.
