Hello everyone. I joined this site because this is my last hope. My 18 year old cat was bitten by my mom's evil Bengal-mix cat. It turned into an abscess. I took him to the vet and had it drained, and had him put on antibiotics. This didn't work. He went back 2 more times. He's had it drained multiple times, and had 3 rounds of different antibiotics, but nothing is working. I've been putting warm compresses on it several times a day. I've been rinsing it out with a sea salt and water solution. I've given him internal and external colloidal silver. I've tried topical lemongrass oil. I've tried L-Lysine. I've tried raw aloe vera leaf on the wound. I massage the pus out everyday, like the vet said to. NOTHING is working.
The vet said that what he really needs is a surgery to cut out the infection, but he is too old, and with his kidney disease, the anesthetic will likely kill him. Finally I suggested we take a culture. He has a weird form of bacteria infesting the wound, called Prevotella. So the vets at the clinic met together and decided that it would be best to do an antimicrobial fusion treatment to the wound (very costly, and I forget what it's called), which would require only a mild, gaseous anesthetic. So far it's not working, and all that's happening is more pus and dead flesh that I have to peel off him every night. So horrific. We are going to give him a fourth kind of antibiotic too, but it likely won't work. The vet said today that if this doesn't work, we should put him down.
I'm so upset. And so angry at my mom's evil cat for killing my poor cat. Also, he can barely walk sometimes, and the vet said that the infection has likely spread to his spinal cord. So if this last antibiotic doesn't work....I don't know what to do. This is of course costing a fortune, I don't know how many treatments I can afford...and more importantly, my cat is suffering all the time. What do I do? Any other remedies before I am forced to put him down??? He still has so much will to live. He loves to cuddle and loves to eat all day long. He doesn't want to die, otherwise I would have called it quits earlier...so that he stops suffering. Thanks for your time.
