Plant Identification, Shes Eaten A Leaf...

Hi all

Our 15 week old kitten had just learned to jump onto our shelves. Weve been very careful but in a split second she ate leaf off this plant, gone! We cant find the label stating what plant it is, should i be worried???

Hi there,

I asked an avid gardener in my family about the plant, and she said that it looks like a ficus (aka fig). Ficus plants are poisonous to cats, according to the ASPCA website: Fig. However, I don’t know if one leaf would be a concern. I would advise you to call the vet, and see if they think she needs to be brought in.

From the links that abyeb and Mamanyt1953 gave you, the ficus (and I agree with the ID) is mostly a contact irritant, so it would give the kitten an upset stomach. If there’s been no vomiting a few hours after, I don’t think there’s a problem. Hope she’s doing well. Let us know, please.
