Hi all

Our 15 week old kitten had just learned to jump onto our shelves. Weve been very careful but in a split second she ate leaf off this plant, gone! We cant find the label stating what plant it is, should i be worried???

Hi there,

I asked an avid gardener in my family about the plant, and she said that it looks like a ficus (aka fig). Ficus plants are poisonous to cats, according to the ASPCA website: Fig. However, I don’t know if one leaf would be a concern. I would advise you to call the vet, and see if they think she needs to be brought in.

The vet will likely have you call the pet poison control line just FYI:

From the links that abyeb abyeb and Mamanyt1953 Mamanyt1953 gave you, the ficus (and I agree with the ID) is mostly a contact irritant, so it would give the kitten an upset stomach. If there’s been no vomiting a few hours after, I don’t think there’s a problem. Hope she’s doing well. Let us know, please.
