I didn't know what to call this post... or if this was the right place.
Anyway, PJ is my 11-12ish year old girl. She's in perfect health except for her thyroid, which is being managed. For the 2 years I've had her, she has always stood up to do her business - pee or poop. Our other cat (incidentally, a boy) doesn't do this.
So, Teddy can pee in front of the litterbox just fine (Jumbo rectangular covered pan), since he squats and hangs his tail out.
PJ thinks she can too. Unfortunately, since she stands up, we've had pee to clean up outside the box.
Both cats like covered boxes, and they're big(ger) - 13 pounds - so they like jumbo boxes.
I'm nervous about trying a top entry box, but since both cats can jump the height of one, it might work out okay. Short of doing that, however, does anyone have any suggestions about what to do for PJ? We line the floor with plastic, then put a rug on it - so the pee isn't ending up on our floor, and the rug is cheap and disposable so we just replace it - but when she has multiple peeing in the front of the box episodes and she misses, it starts smelling. : P We're not sure what else to do to clean up/contain the pee that misses!
I think I'm going to get a giant rubbermaid container, cut a hole in the top, and see what that does. Like I said, she loves to jump on stuff (and play in the litterbox), so it might not be a problem, but changing a box makes me nervous.
