Hey Beth....the Nashville Zoo is here in town....just south of the city. If you go to Nashville Zoo you can get directions and see some pictures of the animals there. It's mostly an outdoor walking zoo.....it's really nice.Originally Posted by Ali012281
Ooo. Where is the Zoo around here?I love zoos! Great pictures.
Brian....the good thing about this zoo is that it's mostly an outdoor zoo with walking trails. They've made all the animal exhibits to look as much like their natural habitat as possible so you don't have to look through bars on most of them. For example....for the large cats (who can obviously jump)...they built large deep waterfall areas at the front of the exhibit so that the cat can't jump at the humans.....but the humans can have an unobstructed view of the cats. As you can see in the Tiger picture.....there is a fence behind him. I wanted to be able to get rid of that background so that just the Tiger shows....but I haven't worked on it in Photoshop yet.Originally Posted by brianlojeck
having taken many zoo pictures myself, I have to ask... where are the bars?
These pictures are so unobstructed, it looks as if you were in the cage with the beasts?
if so, can you put a good word in for me with the zoo management? ;-)

I know...there is a huge difference. Basically instead of letting the camera control all the settings.....I shoot in RAW which allows the camera to capture all the details of the image and allows me to adjust for exposure in Photoshop without any degradation of the image at all. It's hard to explain....but yesterday at the zoo, I decided to give it a try and I loved the results. It gives me much more control over how the image looks in the end. I think I'm going to always shoot in the RAW from now on!Originally Posted by captiva
I like the tiger, too - I can see the difference in the Cheetah and Tiggy shot. The Cheetah shot (which is good) almost looks like you took with 400 speed film vs. professional grade film for the Tiger. I know that's a stupid way to describe the difference in a digital photo, but there is a quality difference in the two. I don't quite understand how the feature works that you were describing, but it works! Great shots!
I was just using a 70-300mm and my focal length on this shot was the full 300mm. It's not really a telephoto.Originally Posted by brianlojeck

In that case, forget the camera...
What kind of LENS do you have? Must be a heck of a telephoto...
Hmmm... right now I think we're paying like $550 for the photography so if you can find a plane ride to Hawaii for that price, and if you don't mind sharing a condo with my parents, it's a deal!Originally Posted by KittyKook

Go for it! I'll bet they'll accept.Originally Posted by KittyKook
I think mine are much better! Maybe I should see if they want copies of MY pictures?
Share a condo with your parents? Hmmm...have to think about that one!Originally Posted by pinkdaisy226

That's a great idea! The darn yearly membership is pretty high and if you pay each time you go.....it's $10 per person just to go.Originally Posted by mrsd

I agree. Your photos look far more professional.Originally Posted by KittyKook
Here are the Nashville Zoo's pictures of some of their animals that are on their website. And they don't even have a copy of that cute monkey with the funny hairstyle!
