For the past two years, we've used a petkit brand "eversweet 2" fountain and it's worked just fine for my picky cat. I've used their branded "2.0" filters and have had no real issues with them. Sometimes they last as long as advertised and sometimes they don't but on the whole they seem to work.

Well, sometime this past fall of 2023 they "redesigned" them and have a 3.0 filter out. The reviews on Amazon are pretty terrible for the new filter. Doesn't last, gets clogged easily, causes the fountain to overflow, etc. One viewer, claims to be a vet, said they were instructed by petkit to physically modify the filter by cutting out the center part to stop the overflow issue.

I'm curious if anyone here uses the petkit brand fountains and their filters and what your experience has been with the 3.0 filters. I just changed out my extremely picky cat's prime fountain with one of these 3.0 filters and it's a little nerve wracking because I don't know how this will go. Ugh, I wish these pet companies would just stop changing things. Some of us have cats that do not tolerate ANY change.

Are you still able to get the 2.0 filters? Can you get them off of ebay maybe, and stock up? It sounds to me as though the hassle is going to be more on you than your cat with the 3.0 :(

If you can get one, try putting something like a school lunch tray, --that has slightly raised edges, underneath it to help catch overflow.

i’ve been looking around and I don’t see any of the 2.0 filters. I think part of the problem I’m running into is they started switching them out back in September and the stockpile I had built up is now gone.

that’s a great suggestion for those lunch trays, I actually use one of those when I’m eating in the living room because they’re convenient. My fountain has an overflow port, so I don’t think I have to worry about water getting on the floor but I’m definitely going to monitor it.

and you’re 100% right this is probably gonna be way more of a hassle on me than it is the cat. The cat will either drink or not drink pretty binary. Whereas I have to jump through all the hoops to get her to drink. this sucks because we have two fountains in operation, a full fountain in reserve in case of breakage, and multiple spare pumps in case I need to replace a pump. So I’m pretty invested in this particular fountain.

My picky Betty White drinks from an Eversweet. We have not upgraded to 3.0 filters yet. I guess that's something to look forward to... ?

She has also finally warmed up to a HomeRunPet fountain in case the 3.0 filters don't work out for you.

I put pee pads underneath both fountains to catch any spillage--which we don't have. Betty could use a bib though. After over a year of never seeing her drink, I finally know she drinks when she comes snuggling with a wet chest.

I actualy use a silicon dish drying pad under mine it works really well since the water just evaporates off it. Kabuto likes to flick the water off the ramp with his tongue. It is dishwasher washable and can be used over and over.

Amazon.ca

it is this one but I got mine at the liquidation store so it was a fraction of the price. Fits Kabuto's ceramic raindrop fountain perfectly would probably fit the eversweet as well. I only can find the dimentions for the round modle though.

anyways I really like the ceramic raindrop fountain and so does Kabuto. It has the same kind of spout as the eversweet and has a ramp and bowl for power outtages. I also was looking for ceramic or stainless because he is alergic to the plastic ones and breaks out in zits.

you also can buy the filters for the raindrop at the pet store which i like.

i would avoid cutting charcoal or ionic filters if possable since the little pellets can leak out only foam ones should be cut.

btw the eversweet stainless modle is only stainless on the rim. The center and spout are plastic. False advertising!

I actually have a small army of fountains to cycle through if needed. It seems like she only started drinking water after I started letting her have a small amount of kibble with her wet food. It would seem she was getting enough hydration from her food alone until she wasn't. I think Betty is older than advertised and I also think her teeth are still bothering her despite her last dental exam and extractions. I'll be booking her with a veterinary dentist sometime this year to see if we can get proactive or if there are any prior jobs that can be cleaned up by a specialist. This is to say that it's more important that she eats enough than that I keep her on solely wet food. So I'm happy to see that she drinks water now. I don't have a spillage problem. The pee pads are really only there to collect messy removal and replacement of the basin. Betty herself seems to catch any would-be overflow in her chest fur. After all the mistakes I made with Krista, I wanted to get it all right from the start with Betty. And she would have none of that. She will only eat enough if she gets some kibble with her pate. She likes tap water. She likes plastic fountains. Maybe some of these parameters have changed since her diet changed. But for now, it works for her and we have larger concerns to still work out.

Bit of an update: after a few weeks I've had no issues with the filters with overflowing or anything negative. Perhaps the amazon reviews were wrong or perhaps they've tweaked the design since the initial reviews.

Theres a saying the squeeky wheel gets the oil.
Ive found the most vocal often have issues with a product. For every person who posts a bad review probaly 100 more say nothing because they have no issues.

Any fountain you should change filters at least once a month or if you notice it turning nasty or a smell, more often if you have a dog or multiple pets.

Wash the fountain once a week and disassemble and clean the guts of the pump at the same time. Many people forget to clean the pump and it gets nasty and slimy where the propeller sits. Just doing this will keep any fountain running great clean and quiet.
