Well in my search for a Cat for a friend it has peaked my curiosity as to what breed has the best personality? Which one has the most laid back attitude? Sweet and likes to be held? Is there such a Kitty?

For me that'd be a loony of a cat that has funny antics and makes you laugh, is active and energetic and a bit of a live wire, really likes playing and doesn't really ever grow out of the kitten crazies properly and I don't mind rearranging my life to suit the cat's needs.
My ideal personality differs again, I like high-activity levels and the kind of cat that barely leaves your side! I found that in the Oriental, the slender rex breeds and sphynxes are like that too. Despite being a loyal and highly affectionate velcro cat, the Oriental is not at all laid back - lively and attention-seeking and emotionally 'high maintenance'- they're sensitive souls and can become upset if left alone or by routine changes such as changes in their human's work patterns etc.Originally Posted by urbantigers
The sort of personality I consider ideal is an active cat who's lively, energetic and curious, and retains kittenish behaviour well into adult life. I have a Somali and he pretty much matches the Somali breed description and then some. He's very curious and lively, and doesn't sleep much. Laid back he is not! Cats like that tend not to be lap cats because they're far too busy for that kind of thingbut it doesn't mean they can't be affectionate.
Oh, yes! Three of my Maine Coons just turned 2 last month. Still in the kitten phase!Originally Posted by kluchetta
And if you get a kitten, particularly from a slowly maturing breed such as Maine Coon or Ragdoll, that does mean they will be kittens for a very long time, LOL!My Smudge isn't much like I thought a Ragdoll would be, but I'll bet in a couple more years he will be.
I need to see a picture of your Smudge!!! I was really looking into getting a Maine Coon until my Smudge came into my life.Originally Posted by MargeCat

I think, in a year or so, we could saddle him up, and rent him out for pony rides to the neighborhood kids! I think Maines keep growing for about 3 years or so (?)--I know it's very long timem at any rate.
BTW, I have a Smudge also, but's he's a Maine Coon. A very naughty Maine Coon...he reminds me of a young pony, galloping throughout the house. These guys have tons of energy! Your Smudge is GORGEOUS! I've never had a Ragdoll, but know someone who did--they sound like delightful cats, and they're so very pretty, too.
