So as everyone knows Freya is usually a well behaved cat, she knows where the litter box is, she knows how to use it, it's never blocked from her, she always has access to it. And she's started peeing where ever she feels like it. We're also moving and packing things up, so we don't know if she's upset about that? Or what... She's never acted this way before until we started packing. What is going on? Any way to fix this?

Usually, when a cat suddenly avoids her box, the recommendation is to see the vet about a possible urinary tract issue. In Freya's case, though, the stress of all the upheaval due to the move is more than enough to explain her behavior. It's still worth a trip to the vet, but it's very likely that the culprit is the move. Most cats get very anxious leading up to and during a move, as well as for a time afterward. 455701fdc7fa53c8834841e37eec33db.gif The article How to Move With Your Cat to a New Home in a Safe Way will give you a lot of tips for minimizing Freya's anxiety and keeping her safe.

For now, while you're just packing, it would help Freya if she had her own room as a sanctuary. If possible, leave everything the same in there for as long as you can. She needs a place that still feels like home. Put her favorite toys in there with her and ensure she has a way to look out the window. During the actual packing process, put her in there so she doesn't see what you're doing. The rest of the time, let her decide where she wants to be.

When cleaning up, be sure to use an enzyme-based cleaner that will break down waste materials. Otherwise, Freya will be tempted to return to the same spots, under the impression that it's okay to pee there.

When do you actually move? Sending best wishes that all goes smoothly. catman.gif :vibes::vibes::vibes::vibes::vibes::vibes:

Moving van arrives Friday, most likely that evening is when we'll move. Thanks for the advice. We made an appointment with the vet for this afternoon also to make sure it isn't also a uti.

Couldn't find a way to edit my last post, but she's been put on liquid antibiotics and now has a microchip.

That's great news that you got her microchipped. Cats do have an uncanny way of getting through doors on moving day. black cat on front paws.gif

I hope the move goes well and that Ms. Freya feels better soon! :catrub:
