2 days ago, I noticed my cat, Gnocchi, had a small patch of missing fur beside her whiskers/mouth. It had no blood, and she didn't appear to find it painful to the touch. We weren't sure what it was. We considered she got into a scrap with the other cat in the house but since it didn't have any blood or what appeared to be puncture wounds at that time, we assumed not and kept an eye on it. Now today we noticed that it is a bit bigger than before (the area without fur) and now with some redness/blood.

We have a vet appointment for tomorrow but I wanted to know if anyone else has experienced similar things with their cat and what it could be? She is an indoor only kitty and is just over a year old. I've read that it could be allergies although that seems sudden as she hasn't changed her food in over a month and didn't see to be especially itchy or show any irritation prior to this.

I’m glad to hear that you’re taking her into the vet. I don’t know what this could be. Due to it’s location, I don’t think it could be from fleas, which is a common cause for skin irritation in cats. But there are plenty or other causes for skin problems in cats, as this article explains: Skin Conditions In Cats. Your vet will be able to get it figured out. They might take a skin sample, and look at it under the microscope, or they might be able to tell upon initial examination.
