We recently adopted our new kitten (8 weeks old, Male). He had been neutered prior based on the agency's regulations for adoption. When we took him home, we noticed swelling around the incision. We took him to our vet for a look-over and our vet had to immediately drain the site.
Our little guy was administered Isoflurane as an anesthetic and was under for about 30 minutes for the procedure. Our vet drained the site and then administered a (we're assuming based on the invoice) 0.03mg dose of Buprenorphine. He was prescribed clavamox drops as an anti-biotic. He was drowsy for an hour after we got home.
After this period he began to act incredibly hyperactive and restless, digging up towels in his isolated bathroom, kicking litter while spinning in circles. His pupils showed severe dilation and very odd and sporadic eye movements. Once we got him finally calmed down, he slept for a good hour or so in his crate with a cone on to prevent licking. Once he woke up, he went back to being extremely restless and crazy. The only thing that seemed to keep him controlled was playing. We played with him for over 5 hours straight and he WOULD NOT tire out. When we stop playing with him, he goes back to pacing and acting odd and restless.
It's been over 14 hours since the operation and between us both, we're starting to wear thin and are wondering how we can make this little guy calm down and rest. He doesn't SEEM to be in pain; he's been purring and affectionate, jumping and running while he plays, still seems adventurous to tackle the top of the toilet seat as well.... We just want him to be OK in his new home.
Any help is GREATLY appreciated. This is our second adopted rescue cat, our first went off without a hitch. (They are separated entirely right now though).
