I live in Spain and fed a little feral cat in our village everyday for the last 20 months, from when his mother was still feeding him. My husband would not agree to adopt him. Recently I got upset because two of his friends of similar age both lost an eye. We trapped him just over a week ago, took him to be neutered and chipped and tested and injected. He used to be really friendly to me in the village, but he is scared and wary now. We have him in a large three level cage in our dining room. He is eating well and cleaning himself. I let him out of the cage from 8pm to 8 am to give him the run of the room on his own. One of our two original cats has taken some interest but doesn't seem too bothered, neither friendly nor unfriendly. The other cat is quite aggressive towards Baz, the newcomer. At least once a day he charges at the cage growling and acting very aggressively. At other times he will just cuddle up with me on the sofa and keep an eye on Baz. Whenever possible I distract him. Basically I don't know where to go from here, I hate to see him penned up and there is no sign of a better relationship being formed with our Ginger. Obviously I would eventually like to have him free to roam the house and finally outside as well. We tend to sit in Baz's room in the daytime and leave it to him at night. I'd be very grateful for any advice.
This is Baz now on left, and above when I fed him in the village.
