NYC Surgery/Oncology Recommendations Needed!

Does anyone have recommendations for a veterinary practice in NYC with a surgeon and oncologist on staff?

My 9-year-old cat was diagnosed with a soft tissue sarcoma that needs to be removed within the next two weeks. Unfortunately, Animal Medical Center’s Surgical Oncology department doesn’t have openings until October and my vet is also sending an emergency referral and records to Blue Pearl.

Despite the urgency, my vet seems to be doing the bare minimum to get Coco in with a specialist, and it’s stressing me out more than I already am.You think I would have already exceeded the human body’s capacity to cry but, apparently not.

If anyone has other recommendations, please, please let me know.

Many vets are booked weeks if not months ahead of time these days, a combination of the pandemic and staff burn out and resignations.

Our daughter and son-in-law lived in NYC until a few years ago and had to see a specialist at Blue Pearl Animal Specialty Hospital for their dog. They were very pleased with the specialty vet and service they received. They have several locations:

As I posted on your other thread -
Blue Pearl 'swallowed up' a whole host of 'independent' specialty groups, so I would hope that each one is as responsive as they once were before Blue Pearl took them over. The one I am dealing with I can deal with directly - after the initial records were sent to them. So, that means call your vet every day and ask if the records have been sent - AND TELL THEM YOU WANT TO BE COPIED ON THE EMAIL. You have a right to those records, whether or not they are being sent elsewhere. I would also call Blue Pearl directly, tell them what is going on and ask for their assistance - if they are like the one I am dealing with, they may just reach out to your vet to receive the necessary records!!

Again, every place is different, but so far, I have been able to get an appt. with Blue Pearl within 2 weeks of asking for one. But they have also told me to continually call them looking for cancellations.

Even consider other sources like Nextdoor or other local social media. It is not the same as a vet directory, but someone may have used an oncologist for their pet and have some information for you.
