Hi,
Since Tabby's passing my wife and I have been looking to adopt another kitty. I don't know how many hours i've spent searching Petfinder.com, but one of our local Humane Societies turned up the sweetest kitty ever. I originally was looking for a Tabby cat. After looking around the local outlets my wife saw this beautiful black and white kitty and said she really liked it. Then it crossed my mind that it would be really wonderful if we adopted a kitty my wife could call her very own. We talked it over and the next day we went back and adopted the sweet kitty. The kitty was a stray that was rescued from someones auto wheel-well. We named him Buddy.
It's an in-tack boy about two years old they estimate, no tarter on the teeth so it's fairly young. He tested negative to all the things we could think of and he is presently quarentined in one of the cages in our basm't until he get the all clear. Our other stray, Tiger, is upstairs for now until Buddy's retest for, Leukemia, herpes, and distemper(FeLV & FVRCP) which will be done on April, 14th is completed. He also will be neutered this Thurs.
I'm thinking this kitty was abandoned for a short while because he is so friendly and doesn't have a mean bone in his body, a far cry from a Feral cat. He did though hiss at the cage door when I first put him in there. His body didn't react just two light hisses and that was it. I'm thinking he's not used to a solid wood door and caught him off guard. I also noticed that his eyes were just about fully dilated for the first three days. It's the fifth day now and there more normal. It's funny when you've had a feral cat around for a while you learn to pick up signs that probably wouldn't be noticed. Body language is that of a very tame kitty. I can even let him roam the basm't and he just walks around and shows no fear and doesn't even want to hide. He plays with toys and the wand toy as well.
We are so happy he came into our lives. He has already bonded with both of us.
About the only think I think I need to do is socialize him with Tiger. After his quarentine on the 14th, I plan to exchange articles of cloth so they get used to each others smell. Then sight & smell. I plan to setup a fly screen barrier between the main level laundry room where Tiger is now sleeping at night, he roams the house during the day, and put Buddy on the other side so they can get acquainted with a barrier inbetween. I think i'll see how that goes for a week or so and then try a larger mesh screen and see what happens. Then finally just let them get together supervised and see what happens. They both are playful kitty's without any issues at the moment so I anticipate a smooth socialization.
Any other ideas on socializing my two kitty's is alway appreciated.
Here are a couple pics of our newly adopted kitty named Buddy.
