update on the situation with Magnus and my husband:
Brandon (DH) has been home more and spent more time with Magnus and now Magnus is less timid with him. he slept on the bed with the both of us for the past few nights. I had Brandon feeding him at least some of his meals as well as give him treats and that seemed to do the trick. He's also been playing with him. We found this teaser type of toy (long plush tail with feathers on a wand) that he goes nuts over so we've been taking turns playing with him with it.
Magnus no longer hides under the bed (although he does occasionally still dart under there for a few seconds if startled), and has been exploring the house. He still favors the bedroom as "his" area but he also has a favorite window perch there so I guess that is not a big deal.
We still have not had company but the few times someone came over the house (electrician or neighbor etc) for a few minutes, while he didn't go up to them, he did hang out in the hallway and look at them instead of hiding under the bed. When we do have company come over soon, I'll try and entice him over with some treats. He will do anything for food so that SHOULD work, knock on wood.
