Hi everyone! I'm Victoria, a student from Saskatchewan, and I have a gorgeous female coon-cross named Mama. She's an indoor-only queen, and (to the best of my knowledge) is 13 years old.
She was found by the side of the road as an extremely young kitten. She nearly froze to death (-20*C weather), but a bus driver picked her up and drove her to a local vet's office. That's where my family found her, and we adopted her on the spot!
Mama has always battled weight problems and chronic hairballs. For the majority of her adult life she was underweight. We saw several vets, had her tested for worms, kept up with shots, and free-fed her, but nothing helped. She also had a hairball once every two weeks, and groomed herself obsessively.
In the last year and a half, I researched pet foods and ingredients, and figured out that Mama had been eating junk her entire life. We kept her on Purina, Whiskas, No-Name Cat Chow, and other Wal-Mart brands, expecting that they were all the same.
She's now on a mix of Innova kibble and California Natural wet food. She's put on weight, filled out, and stopped shedding so much. And it's about time I joined a forum dedicated to cats! I'm looking forwards to learning more about diets, toys, and some of her really odd behavior.
Our first picture together!
And thirteen years, twelve grades, and three towns later. ;]
Hope to get to know you all!
