Our nephew Scott and Patti are now divorced. She got a very generous package, alimony, etc., and they are sharing custody of the kids. But we spoke to him yesterday and the latest is that Patti was arrested for a DUI and spent 2 days in jail. He is now going back to court next month to try to amend the custoday arrangement. I think she had the kids with her in the car, but I'm not sure of that. But either way, it's a dangerous and potentially deadly situation. Scott said that the kids (age 7 and 9) actually sat down and talked to him about the fact that their mother drives drunk. That's pretty sad when the children have to see that.
Patti has now dropped me from Facebook. I guess she's upset that we are seeing Scott and his girlfrfiend Danielle. We really like Danielle a lot - she's a sweet girl, has an 11 year old daughter, works in real estate, and has been great with the children. I can see how they react to her and of course kids can't hide their feelings.
The whole situation is just so sad, and I think Patti will never learn. She's always had a drinking (and drug) problem, and while I thought she had straightened her life out, apparently she hasn't.
Oh, I forgot to mention this is her second DUI. Last year she owed $900 in back fines. She wanted to borrow the money from us, but we told her we were on a fixed in come and couldn't do it. I knew we'd never see the money again. Someone told us that if you have 3 DUI's you can lose your license for life. Don't know how true that is, but it makes sense.
