Hello, my name is Susie and I recently joined this forum in hopes of learning as much as possible about cats.
I took on the responsibility of being a cat owner only 8 months ago. A lady was moving to Canada into a highrise apt. less than 800 sq. ft. came into my grooming salon in hopes of finding her cat a home before taking him to the humane society. I've had other people stop by trying to find a home for their cat or dog and I would give them info on no kill shelters or local rescues in the area. But for some reason I knew I was going to take this cat home before even seeing him. The final decision would have to be up to my hubby since he has been afraid of cats since a young age. He had stayed the night at a friends house and had a cat run across his face and head while sleeping and it left the nail sheaths in his face.
OUCH!
Anyway, I had the lady go and get the cat and bring him to my work. He is beautiful! And my hubby fell in love with him at first site and after petting him.
He is a very gentle loving kitty.
I started asking my few cat friends questions, I joined another forum that I have learned so much from. I just found this forum and thought I could learn even more from all of you cat people here.
Shamie will be 2 years old next month. When I got him he had never been seen by a vet! I took him in and had tests done and his vacines given as well as having him neutered. He is a healthy and very much loved 12 lb. dsh flame point siamese. At his other home since he was 12 weeks old he was pretty much raised by a little maltese dog.
I have a pug that's 12 years old that could careless about the cat. I have a 3 year old toy poodle and they are best buddies. They play with each other, take naps together and he even steals the poodles dried 100 % chicken breast dog treats. He now gets some of his own.
He eats Solid Gold Katz-n-flocken kibble and Solid Gold canned. His favorite treats are his CET Chews, those dried chicken dog treats, Natural purrz, Kitty Kantina Surf & Turf. He has tons of cat toys but his favorites would be some home made toys I've made for him. I took a sock and put some catnip inside with some shreaded paper bag and tied a knot at the end. He ghoes crazy with that thing sicne it's long enough for him to hold with his front paws and scratch with his back feet at it. Too cute to watch. He has 2 scratching posts, 2 litter boxes (one upstairs and one down, I figured we have a bathroom up and down he should too), he is an indoor cat only so I have spent quite a few dollars on making him happy with being inside. I had no idea I would rearrange my furniture to fit his needs. I use to keep towels on the wide and deep bathroom window seal. It now has his non-electric thermo pad and his bowl of kibble up there. I put a chair with a seat pillow next to my computer desk since he loves to be close to me. I have a few small sized dog beds places in some of his favorite napping places. Under the piano bench, under the computer desk, under the chair next to my computer desk, and next to the sliding glass door. I also took one of those rubber maid totes and put that under my bedroom window ledge (at my knee level) and put a flat pillow and blanket on top since he loves looking out that window and the ledge is so narrow. He has been very content and I think he likes living with us.
I'm thinking about adding a new cat to our family so I have been trying to learn as much as I can about introducing a kitten. See what these cat forums have done.....I've become a cat freak.
LOL
I've always loved animals and they bring so much joy to my life so I figure what's one more cat.
I have 2 dogs....gotta make it even and get a second cat right? LOL
Sorry for such a long introduction I get carried away when talking about my furbabies. Can you tell I'm in love with this cat?
Looking forward to hearing from all of you.
Susie
