Hi everyone! My name is April. My guy & I just got two new kittens, Sashi & Tygralily. We've never had cats before, so we're completely new to this. We also have a 2.5 year old yorkie named Frankie, who loves his new little sisters, never chases them, and just wishes they would play with him instead of ignoring him or hissing at him.
Sashi & Tygralily are 7 weeks old. We got them from a nice young couple who feeds stray cats in their neighborhood (the kittens' mom being one of them). Mama cat continues to have litter after litter of kittens. Every time the couple manages to find homes for all her babies, since she no longer has to stick around, she takes off and gets preggers again. They're trying to catch her and take her to the SPCA to be spayed. Sashi & Tygralily were the first litter that's been born in the house. All the rest were born outside and had to be moved to shelter (with much protest from mama, who would take them away from shelter and put them back near the woods). This time though, they had gained her trust enough to get her inside and comfortable to have the kittens. They were the last two kittens left and the couple did not want to take them (or mama) to the shelter, because the shelters in NYC have extremely high kill rates, and young kittens are killed daily for something as simple as sneezing, due to the shelter cold that goes around.
The girls are doing very well and adjusted to their new home very quickly. They're absolute dolls. Watching them play is one of my favorite things to do and they also love snuggling. They're very curious about Frankie and can be in the same room with him now without problems and even get within a foot of him & vice versa. They aren't playing together or cuddling together just yet, but I'm sure they will be soon. Couldn't have asked for a better first week.
They are all ready eating hard food (Royal Canin Babycat 34), they are loving their first cat tree, and they are doing well the litterbox. (Sashi is having a few problems with the litterbox; I posted about that elsewhere.) They go to the vet for their first set of shots sometime next week.
Here they are:
The pink framed photo is Sashi. She's more of a golden color than her sister and has marbled markings. (I think that's what they're called?) The purple framed photo is Tygralily aka Ty, Tygra, or Lily. She's more grey and has spots. The vet who examined them just to make sure they were healthy mentioned that he thought they were part Bengal and in the "Bengal fuzzies" but I think they're adorable whatever the heck they are!
I wanted to post some video too, but haven't uploaded them on YouTube yet.
