Ill try to be brief..15 year old cat, past two years had sneezing, runny nose and eyes and congestion. Vet kept putting her on antibiotics but never fully went away. A month ago she Was barely eating or drinking and had a swollen left lymph node under her chin, we thought tooth infection. Vet said was definetley cancer, she was going to die, gave her 24 hour pain med and sent us on our way. To me symptoms seemed like it would suggest fungal or drug resistant infection. She started going blind in her left eye and stopped eating all together, would only drink a little bit, became very lathargic and staggered around when she walked like she was drunk. I took her to a different vet who tested the swollen lymph node and gave her a steroid shot in the mean time. Within 6 hours she was eating some again, drinking a lot, and bouncing around...but the next day she was even worse. Got the test results back and although they did find a few atypical cells they mostly found a raging infection, which could cause atypical cells. So i gave her another steroid shot and she Got started on a strong dose of amoxicillin. The day I started her on those, I was certain she would not make it through the night, staggering around, starting to go blind in the other eye, stink of infection, not responding to her name being called, peeing blood, emaceated, throwing up, a thick layer of crust over her already blind eye, etc. so, since the meds she has not thrown up (thurs), and my mother has been spoon feeding her three tablespoons of food every 2 hours, she seems a touch more alert, the drainage from her nose and eye seem a little more clear and I can barely smell the infection anymore. Sooo, all of this was to ask, what else can we do for her to get her to recover from this????? We are going to start with hot packs on the swollen lymph node but other than that I'd really appreciate some advice on how to prevent her death and get her on the track to comfortably recovering. Thank you do much in advance.
