Okay so when inside it takes quite a lot to get him to want to play. He mostly lays around , lets me cuddle him, and then hisses/yowls to be let out. All day. I try playing with him but all he wants is to drag me to the door and scratch at it. He does play sometimes and that's great but after playing he still wants to go outdoors.
Once outside he acts niceish in my back and front yard . Even chases the fish on a string I have and nibbles on catnip. Sometimes he does this cute thing where he roles on his back and lets me pet him. I have a leash but he seems so tense when it's on and keeps trying to escape it by climbing trees and getting tangled (never does this when it's not on)! But after a few min he starts to get farther away from the yard and the farther he gets the MEANER he gets. It's like a switch.
If I pick him up in my backyard and bring him in he might hiss and try to scratch but thats it. When I pick him up 4+ houses away? Full on attack mode. He yowls like I'm beating him or trying to kill him which is SUPER embarrassing and makes me worry someone will think I'm abusing him. I don't want him taken away! He comes when you shake the treat bag but then goes right back to being super super mean and doesn't even want treats. I've gotten him checked out before (he's been to the vet like 3 or 4 times and has had blood test, stool tests, shots, etc) and was mean since I got him. Though it's been getting worse but I 100% think it's because before the last vet visit he wouldn't roam into the neighbors yards as much.
We can't let him just free roam: 1. I spent 500+ on him . NO WAY am I just letting that cat disappear . 2. Nearly every house has a dog in it. Seriously. He tries going into yards with "Beware of dog" and one of the dogs a few houses away has a very high prey drive. 3. You know that cute thing I mentioned him doing? Apparently he does it near strangers too. But if you pet him too much he WILL attack your hand badly. Kids (and we have a lot of those near by) will see that and be like "cute kitty!" and guess what will happen then? Yep. I don't want to see him put down just because he is a mean cat.
I've tried everything to get him to not want to go outside: catnip , toys, playing more, playing less, more petting, less petting...I'm going to try to play EVEN MORE with him but I doubt that will work. It calms him down a bit but he still hisses to go outside. What do I do Cat Site? I'm so upset. He attacked my face/hands when I tried bringing him inside after trailing after him for like 30 minutes in order to let him be outside with no leash and when I wanted to bring him inside (he tried sneaking into the yard of someone home and it was getting dark out) it took 10+minutes and then I DROPPED HIM when bringing him in because he tried eating through my hand. He looked stunned. I KNOW I WAS. I just stared at him. I'm about to cry . I dropped my boy. I feel terrible.
*TLDR; My cat HATES the leash, he doesn't want to stay in doors, he meows/hisses/yowls to go outside and only plays for short times because he wants to go outside, and nothing I do seems to help. What am I doing wrong.
