Hi guys,
New to the site, but I'm worried about my big boy Adam (he's a maine coon mix, 22lbs).
A little background info on Adam to help anyone with questions on his past. He's about 3-4 years old (we're unsure, we got him and his sister as adults from another family). About a year ago he blocked up. We took him to the emergency vet, and the doctor tried to catheter him, but some how managed to rip his urethra close to his bladder. Long story short, the emergency hospital took him to a specialty animal surgery center, and they repaired the tear in his urethra. They had him for over a week till he got better.
All was well for about a year and a half, and then he blocked again, and got a really bad UTI. This was 2-3 weeks ago. So again we take him to the emergency vet, and they keep him for almost a week. We get him home, and they give us two medications for him. One being an antibiotic that I gave him a pill and a half every 24 hours, and a liquid called Prazosin (I think I spelled that right). He finished his antibiotics a few days ago, and I kept him on the Prazosin for about a week and a half, almost two weeks. The doctors told me I should start taking him off of it.
Well, he's peeing, but not like he used to. He'll pee either a little bit at a time, and go several times in a short span, but sometimes he pees a good bit. I've checked his bladder, and I haven't found it full yet. Every time I check it, it feels empty. I know he's eating and drinking just fine, because I watch him like a hawk when I'm home. Also doing the "dehydration test", his skin snaps back instantly.
He doesn't seem to be in pain. He's up playing around and doing his thing as usual.
I'm not sure what's wrong or what to do?? Any tips?
