Just thought I would update. Nate gave up the hike and came home. He said his heart just wasn't in it any longer. He prefers climbing now. Last night he flew to Spain for 2 weeks, just to relax and write. He starts a new job August 1 so he is getting his relaxing done now. His ex is having a difficult time on the trail. She has shin splints and is some distance from town. She can only hike 2-5 miles a day so I am worried about her running out of provisions before she gets to town. You usually only carry enough to get you to the next town in a certain period of time. Nate even talked to her sister about him going out and hiking out to her to help, but evidently she didn't feel it necessary. He has had shin splints on the trail before and knows how difficult it can be.
