Hey there! This is my cat, Dempsey. When I adopted him, the girl said he was a Siamese mix, but I don't believe that to be the case. Here's a few pictures of him... he's three years old and weighs 15 lbs. He's got bright beautiful blue eyes, a medium length coat, and a bushy tail. He loves to be brushed. He loves it so much, he carries his brush around the house with him. Hobbies include: headbutting you, climbing on your chest and knocking your phone out of your hand so you'll pet him, chasing his favorite ball (stress ball that he stole from me), laying flat on his back, sleeping in boxes, following me around, playing fetch with random objects, and talking to you. He's an extremely friendly cat, and is particularly fond of me and sleeps next to me most nights. He loves--I mean LOVES--to crawl up on my husband's chest and headbutt him in the chin. When he wants affection, he's going to get affection.

We think he is either a Ragdoll or a Birman but I'm not experienced enough to tell the difference. Maybe you all can help?

Handsome boy! Dempsey would be more of a Ragdoll lookalike than a Birman lookalike, because he doesn't have the little white socks like a Birman. Without papers, though, he would technically be a Domestic Longhair, but I do think some Ragdoll influence is possible (based on his looks and size). His color would be called red lynx point.

Hey thanks for the reply! I frequently let him know how handsome he is. We definitely enjoy him and his quirky personality!

What a love bug! You have a winner there and so does he. I'm pretty sure he's not Birman. The head and tail aren't quite right for one. However, he does look like he could have a lot of Ragdoll in him. How does he act when you pick him up?

Thank you! He's a sweetheart. When I pick him up he doesn't react too much... he'll rest his head on my shoulder and hang out there for a bit, before indicating he might want down. But when handled by people, he's calm. No problems being examined by the vet or being picked up by strangers. My husband will pick him up and flip him on his back, setting him in his lap and petting his stomach. He doesn't squirm or freak out like my orange tabby does! For the most part, he doesn't seem to mind being held although I gather it may not be his favorite thing depending on his mood.

Kind of the stereotype of Ragdoll cats is that they always flop over when being picked up- but I talked to one breeder at a cat show who said that not every Ragdoll will do that- every cat is an individual. I think what's important to note here is that Dempsey is relaxed when interacting with humans, which really does go along with the Ragdoll purr-sonality.

Flame Point Balinese, or a Siamese/Balinese cross. Quite a few have been showing up in the American Southwest this year at shelters:

Half a dozen different judges come to mind who wouldn't think twice about judging Dempsey as an old style Balinese.

I know very little about identifying cat breeds, but based on his size, coloring, length of fur, his mane, blue eyes and gentle nature I would consider a ragdoll influence.

He makes me laugh, just looking at his pictures. He seems to have a wonderful personality.
