Yesterday I was preparing my rental cottage for weekend visitors, and as I opened a bedroom window to air the room, a lizard about 8 inches long jumped down off the ivy into the room. I love having wildlife around - frogs, toads, weasels, foxes, squirrels are all regular residents in my garden, but I did not think my guests would appreciate a largish lizard running over their pillows in the middle of the night. I was not expecting David Attenborough!
So I had to catch it and remove it back to where it belonged. But lizards are fast. And they can get into places where I cannot reach. An hour later I had removed most of the furniture out of the bedroom and got the net that I use for the fish pond. I was anxious not to hurt or scare it as some lizards can shed their tails if they are caught, and I wanted to release it unharmed. Using the net I finally managed to corner it and pick it up in some soft kitchen paper. It ran off happily into the rockery, a much better environment for lizards!. When the guests arrived I decided not to tell them about how their bedroom got cleaned.
