not sure if O is allergic to chicken/turkey or perhaps eggs in Alnutrin.
we have been feeding Daves turkey, but he still gnaws his high hind legs.
Course, could be psychological.
No fleas or worms, both just vet checked.
So thinking of rotating out of Daves and other chicken/turkey.
Anyone have any experience with Wysong? Thinking of trying their duck, rabbit or salmon to see he stops gnawing.
He's temp on antihistamine.

No experience with that food specifically but just popping by to say that your cat will need 6 weeks without chicken or turkey to confirm the allergy. That's how long it can take to stop allergy symptoms.

Cat could also be allergic to something in the environment.

Where are they gnawing?

One of my cats would chew her paws until you could see pink skin under her white fur. I wound up changing litters. She hasn't done it since I changed to crystal litter. She also seems to tolerate walnut litter.

If you think it is food related, you would probably need to change to a novel protein. For my other kitty with tummy troubles, we put her on Instinct Limited Ingredient Rabbit. Tummy troubles cleared up after about a month. She also licks up the fur on her legs, but we can't seem to figure out what's causing it. She was a rescue out of a hoarding situation, so it may be habit.

could be litter I suppose, but it's the same pine nugget horse bedding we've been using for a few years.
could be environ as well, but he's been here for a decade. could be aging.
hoping the antihist at least calms the itchy/licky back leg femur. his skin is exposed, but not irritated.
think next order I'll try some Wysong duck or wabbit. Or an Instinct limited.

Hi M metropical !

Horse nuggets are not treated to remove the phenols in the pine that is toxic to cats. Over time this can cause issues.

Pine litter specific to cats is treated differently than horse or rabbit litter.

I just checked with the maker of what I've been using.
Horse pellet bedding
They say as safe and the same as their small animal product.
Still, when I finish this bag, I'll try another just to see.
He's not much of an indoor toity. He prefers the wild blue yonder.
