A drink-driving suspect has been accused of biting a police dog in the eye and neck.
Vader the German Shepherd was trying to catch Dana Murphy who ran into a scrapyard after being stopped by a sheriff's deputy in Florida.
The dog is being given antibiotics and eye drops and Murphy has been treated for bite wounds inflicted by Vader.
Murphy, 28, from Virginia, is reported to have crashed into a car in Pompano Beach before running away from a Broward County deputy who witnessed the accident.
The South Florida Sun-Sentinel says he refused to give himself up after climbing into a car in the scrapyard.
Vader was sent after him but deputies claim Murphy grabbed the dog and bit him in the eye and neck.
Deputy Frank Maio, who named the dog after Star Wars' Darth Vader, said: "He was trying to kill my dog ... this man had a mission and his mission was to kill my dog. He had totally lost it."
Murphy faces eight charges, including driving under the influence, leaving the scene of an accident, burglary and battery on a police dog.
