My mom called today and said that my dad had an endoscopy done and they found what could very possibly be throat cancer....
A little back story-
My dad was in Vietnam and when he was 22 his tank drove over a landmine and had part of his head taken off(sorry to be graphic). The doctors have always said that it WILL affect his memory at some point and he could show signs of dementia. Well, lately he has been having trouble multi-tasking. I have a few examples but won't go into them at this time. One was while he was driving he was eating and choked and blacked out. SCARY!
So he's been having tests done on his brain and everything. Well his voice has been getting hoarse and he has been having trouble eating, swallowing and talking. They went to the doctor and he did the endoscopy today. The doctor was pulling the tube out because he couldn't find anything and saw the tumor at the last minute. It is an inch in diameter. I talked to my mom while I was at work and she told me then. I obviously was a complete basketcase. My O.M offered to let me go home but there is really nothing I can do at this time.
Dad is going to have an emergency biopsy in the next two days sometime. They are supposed to call tomorrow.
My dad is 62 and just retired. He is just getting to relax after major health issues from him and my mom. He is staying positive. He told my mom "I had prostate cancer and overcame that and I am a Christian. God has a plan. There is a reason the doctor saw it at the last minute. Maybe this will save my life."
Please can you spare some vibes? I have been crying nonstop. I know it is not necessarily a death sentence but cancer is a very scary word.
Thanks guy
