Question. Maybe someone has an idea on what it this to do. Let me give you a little history on my Maine Coon. My wife and I picked this little guy up way back in the day when we fit in my front shirt pocket. He was the run of the group. We got him for my wife but he ended up my best friend. He slept with my at my side as a kitten, followed me everywhere went and even jumped in the shower with me at times.
Now, he's going to be 4 in June this year and he's still my very best friend. Still sleeps at my side and I spoil this guy absolutely rotten. Here's my question, as a kitten he played aggressively biting and scratching but as a kitten it doesn't hurt so I played his way. Throughout the years he's mellowed out as far as that goes but recently he likes playing rough again. And he's now 26lbs and when he scratches or bites it hurts bigtime. I have scars. So, his new thing is he's all lovey dovey and plays and rolls and chasing string like a normal cat. But now he does this thing where we stops and rubs on you nice and loving then in a split second he lunges at me and either bites or scratches me. Being as big as he is, his claws are huge and stick in and draw blood along with the bites. He also doesn't let go. He makes weird noises while he's doing it too.
He's an indoor cat and always has been. I used to hold him when he was a baby and walk him outside so he could look around. Up until a month ago I was still doing it. But the last day he look around and right up at me and latched on to my face claws stuck in my nose and split my lip. After these "attacks" within a minute or so when he's done he's back to Normal. But some of the these attacks are brutal. He never does it to my wife only me. Is this a alpha thing because I over spoiled him or what. Don't suggest I declaw him because I will not. And don't suggest getting rid of this guy. He's my boy. I would never let him go. Ever. Any real ideas? Thanks!
