I had to put Lucy my 5 years old orange tabby down last Friday. Lucy was FIV positive and she had no health issues till 6 month ago. It started with acting different and when I get close to her she will hide from me. When she tried to eat dry food she had problems swallow the dry food and spit it out. She cleared her throat alot and her meow vocal totally was changed and it was a lot deeper. Lucy does not like wet food. I took her to the vet and they really could not figure out what is wrong with her but with X-ray it was some inflammation in her throat area. Gave some antibiotics but she still having problem swallowing dry food. I got her used to wet food with mixing it with some baby food which she loved. Few months passed and she got real bad left ear infection. Vet gave her some treatment but at the same time we noticed that she losing her balance and noticed her left side of her face was paralyzed. Her left eye not blinking her left ears not moving and left side of her tongue curled up. At that time the vet told me to go see a specialist for MRI try find out if tumor or anything else caused that. With Covid-19 and laid off work I could not afford spend couple of thousand dollars on MRI. A month or so passed by and her balance improved and she was eating fine but then last Saturday she quit eating and I noticed thick discharge from her nose. Looked like upper raspitory infection. Took her back to doctor and they gave her more antibiotic and look like it was getting better but she still not eating . The doctor gave me some ointment drug you put in ear tip to help with brain to make her eat but no luck. She was hungry and she asks for food, she went to her food bowl but that was it. I syringe feed her for 4 days 8-10 times a day to see maybe the infection goes away and she will start eating but no luck. She was losing weight rapidly so this last Friday after 12 visit to the vet for the last 6 month she was tired and she wanted to end.
On this Friday I took her to the vet and I knew she won’t come back home, it is a horrible feeling. I spent a lot of time with her the night before and the day we put her down. The strangest part that I still can’t figure it why that the last two days and nights she followed me everywhere and on my lap all the time. She used to hang around on top my bed with my other cats but she never came to bed at night when I was sleeping. The last two nights she slept next to me till I woke up in the morning. Maybe she knew it was the time.
I still was not giving up and I did not want to lose her so I asked the vet if anything else can be done and she said no.
I knew it was the time and she went to sleep peacefully. We still don’t know exactly what caused all this problems but after she went to sleep the vet open her mouth and we saw on the left side of her throat a lump or tumor kind of yellowish color and a lot of thick grey build up in her mouth. The vet thought that 6 months ago it started from throat area tumor got bigger and worse and spread to other part of her face. I did my best for her and I honestly I don’t think she suffered at anytime, she might have had some pains sometimes but I was trying to the best to make her get better and i still think she wanted that too but I think the last week we both lost hope. I was very close to her and I am very sad that she is gone but she is in better place and we will meet each other soon. I will miss you RIP my Lucy😻😻🙏

I am so sorry for you and Lucy. Thanks for sharing with us. If you have stories of some pleasant times and more pics that you would like to share, please do so at anytime. This is wonderful place to pay tribute and homage to Lucy's life, albeit its brevity. RIP sweet Lucy.

My heart goes out to you, I know how much pain this brings. I hope you remember that you both tried, you did much to help her through this time. When life is endured instead of enjoyed, it is time to end that pain, and somehow you found the strength through your love to help her. The bond you have is a strong one, she will always be a part of your soul. She will be forever as close as your thoughts and prayers, her new path will forever follow your own.
She would never want to bring you such pain, as you would want if you were the first to go, so she wants for you. To live your life seeking the joys and happiness that come with living life to the fullest. None of us are guaranteed a tomorrow, live each and every day in the company of those you love, and find happiness in opening your heart to those little ones you have left, letting Lucy live on through you and adding on to her love already in your heart.
I'll pray for you to find peace in your heart, she is at peace because she was so very loved by you. Take care.....RIP dear Lucy, you will be dearly missed and will forever have a secure place in a loving heart. May the good Lord bless and keep you, until you meet again!

This is terrible, I am so sorry that you lost that sweetheart, but you did all that you could and more, she was not having a good time health wise here and most likely was suffering although she didn't let on, cats are masters at doing that, and even if you did put her through any testing and operations it might've made things worse for her, and although it is so sad and breaks your heart that she had to leave you she is fine now, just fine, and yes you will meet again one day and it will be wonderful...

I am so sorry for your loss, I hope that your heart heals a bit more each day, God Bless.....:alright: :grouphug2: :rbheart:

The video didn't come through. It would seem during the last upgrade to this site, the upload capability stopped working and I don't believe that has been resolved yet. If you use YouTube you can upload the video there and then post a link to it on this site. I hope you do, as I would love to see it.

Rest you gentle, Lucy, dream you deep. Your pawprints are on someone's heart forever.

What a beautiful girl she was, is, and always will be. Her time with you was so short, but...where love lives, an eternity is not long enough, is it? Now Lucy is in That Place Where All Things Are Known. She is healthy, and happy. You were strong enough to help her through the Gate between This Adventure and her Next Great Adventure, and she blesses your for it. And the very best part of Lucy, her love for you, is now purified and translated into Love, and she sends that Love back to you. It will be with you forever. Love abides. Always, forever, Love abides.

You were a good parent, you did all you could. There comes a time when we have to accept the end. Otherwise they suffer needlessly. I think you timed everything as well as anyone could have.

It will get better in time.

Year ago, my Grandfather told me cats can live maximum 4 years.
In the Wild, the life of felines is short.

But the duration is something that we shouldn't care much. Imagine one could choose to either live 100 years alone or 1 year together with his/her beloved. Love matters and Love lasts forever. You were a loving companion for Lucy the Cat, and a good friend - that is all that counts.

Lucy got her pair of wings, we all will do it sometime.

My heart goes with you.
