Update: The 1-TDC I've been giving her seems to be doing her a lot of good. The little tongue ulcer seems to be healing and she isn't drooling as much at night. In fact, last night she didn't drool at all. She's washing herself, eating well, and playing. Is it possible this isn't stomatitis at all and it's just a calicivirus flare that's now getting better? I've been treating the oral issues as such;

- After her morning meal I rinse her mouth with a bit of water from a syringe (which oddly she likes) and then I give her a little for the anti-bacterial mouth gel the vet gave me called MaxiGuard. She gets l-lysine powder in her food for her first meal of the day and s.boulardii probiotic.

- Mid-day after her second meal I give her the 1-TDC paste. She loves the taste although I think it smells disgusting, lol.

- I give the other half of her s.boulardii capsule in her supper.

- Before bed I give a little bit more food, a little more of the MaxiGuard oral gel and some sucralfate liquid that the vet gave me to coat and help heal the ulcer. If I see that she's in pain (like if her gums are really red and she is drooling) I'll give her some of the gabapentin but it's really an "as needed" thing.

Her mouth really is a mystery to me. We went through a long span of time where it really looked bad and now it's starting to look (and smell) a lot better. Still going to see the specialist of course but I would be over the moon if he told us this wasn't stomatitis!

It saddens me the dentist can't fit you in before April. That is a long time to wait. If you are near Maryland, or Pennsylvania there is a place called Animal Dental Center in Towson, MD & York, PA. My kitty Willy has stomatis, the calicivirus & is FIV positive. He had a full mouth extraction in Dec. 2018. The surgery went well. They pulled out his remaining teeth, filed down the bone line & cut out the bad gums & suctured them. The dentist gave him a pain med shot that lasted 3 days. Willy wore an ecollar for 2 weeks. We had to have holes drilled in the ecollar by my vet because Willy was drooling so bad it was collecting under his chin which made his neck inflamed. I have buprenex from my regular vet which I was allowed to continue to maintain his pain. I give him buprenex subq. My vet prefills syringes with the it & I just pull the excess skin on the back of the neck & give him the shot. I wait about 45 minutes before I feed him to make sure he had the full effect of the drug in his system. Unfortunately Willy is still having issues with the stomatis because of his FIV. Beside the buprenex, we just started giving him Gabapentin, Amantadine, TDC & Procana CBD Balance. The reason for all these meds is because Willy has wind up pain now & we are trying to break the cycle. Willy will not allow any meds to be squirted in his mouth. We had a pharmacy compound the Gabapentin & Amantadine into a liquid & now put it in his wet pate food that I have to make into pudding. He has had Convenia shots & Depo shots with no problems. If your kitty still has stomatis issues after the mouth extraction, you can try these meds. I hope your kitty gets better.

Thank you for the advice! We live in the middle of nowhere and the specialist we are seeing is the only one within driving distance (trust me, I checked) and I wouldn't be comfortable putting my baby on a plane due to the fact that she is easily stressed and because she has a very pushed in face. Her pain isn't as extreme as some cats I've seen with stomatitis in that she still grooms and eats normally. We did get gabapentin for pain just in case we need it but we haven't used it more than once. Is Convenia a steroid? I fear that FME won't work because she can't have steroids due to her heart. Fingers crossed that it works. Our usual vet says, in her experience, she thinks it will because her stomatitis (if it's even that and not severe gingivitis) is relatively mild (no throat or back of the mouth involvement).

Was it difficult to give the painkillers after surgery? I assume the mouth area would be super sore.
Not at all, but I'm quite accustomed to giving medications to cats and other critters. What I do is syringe the liquid into the pocket between the cheek and lower gums if putting it in food doesn't work. Depending on the med, some cats will take it mixed with a little canned food or a creamy treat like cream or cottage cheese. Mowgli is a dream to medicate, so I just slowly syringed it onto his tongue.
