I would love to hear stories of how everyone treated their cats with stomatitis. What worked, what didn’t work. I would really like to know any natural remedies that may have worked. I’ve also read past threats about a doctor from Dallas, Dr Wiggs I believe, who had a very effective liquid for treating it. I’m aware he has since passed but wondering if anyone has info on how to obtain this. Thank you!

I have a tough case. I tried all the natural stuff I could find---lysine, lactoferrin, PlaqueOff, etc. I thought I saw some improvement with regular usage but nothing made him feel well enough to eat. I had the full mouth extraction done, except for his canines. Unfortunately that didn't cure him either. So now he's on a low dose of steroids (triamcinolone) :/. He's been doing well with that for over a year now.

From what I have read it seems like every case is a tough one. ☹ My cat is FIV+ as well, so vet does not want to do steroids. Mine is still eating, in fact he finishes everyone else’s food too, he’s grooming and his digestion seems good. He is just super cranky and being mean to the other cats. Thank you for your input and I hope things stay well for you and your kitty

We did steroid shots for years and that worked but we had to do it every month. Eventually an infection spread to my old guy's jaw and we had to get the full mouth extraction, which cured him completely. He was 16 or 17 years old when we had all of his teeth removed, and the next few years we had with him he was like a kitten again.

We are so fearful to do the extractions and be that 20-30% that it doesn’t work. I think you are the first person who I have read about where it did, although I’m sure their are plenty more out there. Did you go to a vet dentist or just a regular vet for the extractions?

It doesn’t seem as though the conventional treatments for this work very well. good luck! I just started colloidal silver tonight

It was just our regular vet at the time. I think at some point if the other treatments aren't working, the teeth get so compromised that even if the procedure doesn't cure it, it is still better for the cat to have them gone.

We've had several cats with stomatitis at the shelter - primarily older FIV+ males - and the only thing that helped was full mouth extractions. They were performed by a regular vet, not a dental specialist. IIRC, only one continued to have problems.

Hi, I have been through many months/years of prednisone and various antibiotics. Both have had major side effects, and not really helped much. But I did find, miraculously, an answer that really works! I doesn't cure the disease, but stops all the symptoms. It's called curcumin. It's an extract of turmeric, and is very good at stopping inflammation. I bought (amazon) the 500 mg capsule of the Meriva style. It's a manufacturing process... It's sold by "Thorne". I put a pinch in my cats food each 4-6 hours, or whenever she needs it. It stops her from batting and pawing at her face, and thumping the floor in pain... Since I've been giving her this, (a week) it has stopped all the symptoms, and I have a happy cat again! I give my cat about 40-50 mg each feeding, which is about 1/13 of a pill. It's a very small pinch, about the size of a bb or two. Good luck. This absolutely worked for me, and I am ecstatic! ps, I am not giving her the sustained version but the full 500 mg pill type.
