litter box training please help

I just got a new kitten and I set up two boxes. One with old shirts for sleep and another with litter for bathroom. Well shes afraid of the litter box and went on my old shirts. So I took the shirt and placed it over the litter so maybe shell get used to the litter. Was this a good choice? Any other suggestions? Please help?

Can you find out what kind of litter she was using previously? If you can use the same brand and type, or match it as closely as possible, that might help.
