Hello Everyone,

I posted a few months back about my 2 year old cat Leo having stomatitis and the issue about seeing a dentist vet about mouth exctraction etc.

Well today we had our appointment at The Arizona Veterinary Dental Specialists here in Arizona and we saw a fantastic dentist vet Dr Risser, who was highly recommended to us by our own vet and our kittens vet too, we weren't actually expecting Leo to have surgery today but they said they have the time to do it and that his condition had got worse recently.
He will be under for around two hours or so and he will stay over night tonight and come home tomorrow afternoon with a feeding tube for the weekend if he doesn't eat well.

It's going to cost us $3,500 but we want a happy cat rather than sad and in pain cat, Ill use this thread to update you all.

I've included a photo of Leo and Layla our 15 week old kitten, they are the best of friends and love to snuggle!

IF anyone has cats who have had the surgery could you let me know how your cats did after surgery in terms of eating and general well being? Thanks!

Leo's made it through his surgery ok, he did really well he's a little groggy at the moment but they will keep an eye on him and he doesn't seem uncomfortable or in pain at all which is great news :) We can pick him up at tomorrow afternoon.

Glad everything went well! I've only had one cat have a surgery (and not that surgery), and he did not eat for a bit after. I had to syringe feed him, which got stressful for both of us. Hopefully the feeding tube will hold over until he feels better. Sort of amazing what vets can do, hope he feels so much better!

We picked Leo up this afternoon, he did fanstatic yesterday and ate his breakfast this morning orally, the feeding tube has not been used at all!
We came home and he had some of his own food which he wolfed down and is now wondering around the house and is enjoying lots of cuddles!

I've included a few photos of him and a pic of his mouth before and after with the X-ray shots from before and after too, it's so interesting to see how stomatitis affects the cat and to think how much pain he must of been in!
I'll keep you updated over the weekend and if anyone has any questions about Leo or his surgery let me know :)

Thank you for the update and photos. So glad he is doing well, living up to his name. When my cat had some teeth out she eat lots when I brought her home (paining killers and drugs still in her system) but the next day needed some coaxing and was fine after that. Keep an eye on him today and keep us posting. Well done Leo.

Leo is doing well, we are currently trying to keep him and Layla separate as Layla gets a bit crazy and jumps on him. He is doing well and eating quite well, tomorrow we plan to go back to the vets for a quick check up and get the feeding tube out as it's not been used and we think it's annoying him and he's been scratching a lot at the kittykollar he has on!

Hope he will feel much better tomorrow once the tube and collar come off.

Amazing. I'm so glad you were able to invest in him and he's responding so well. The most we had out at once for Amalie was 5 teeth around $900 because her condition is FORLs. Sounds like you had a fantastic vet as well as a fantastic little guy. Thank you for the updates.

I'm a fan of Supervet too. Wish he was my vet. So glad Leo is doing well. Keep us updated with his progress.

Today Leo had his feeding tube out, the vet is very impressed with how well his is doing, he has an open wound where the tube was but after a couple of little scratches at it he's left it alone it should scab over tomorrow and the vet said it will heal very quickly.
He's been playing a little with Layla but we are trying to keep them calm at the moment, he doesn't seem in pain and he's currently sat in his favorite spot in the window :)

Will keep you updated with his mouth, I'll try get a photo of his mouth when I can, we are scheduled to see our own vet in a month, he's already back to eating kibble and seems so happy :)
