Leo was a tiny kitten perhaps who followed his mother through a half mile of roads an woods and
came running up my front steps the week of Thanksgiving 5 years ago almost.
I loved his courage and wanting a home so we kept him and gave him a great home
along with 2 others that came up as kittens from the woods in other years.
Friday we fed all our cats Peebo , Bro and Leo
and an hour later my husband said Leo is sick
come see him coming from the edge of the yard and woods
he was heavily salivating and heaving and crying
I had no doubt it was a rattlesnake ..bite.
We gathered him up and put him in the car
and he let out a noise I have never heard like a trill
meow..then one more loud cry and he died on the
way to the vet 15 miles from us.
We were just heartbroken and cried out loud in the vet
office and have cried for 6 days..
We buried him here in the pet cemetary where
a dog named snooty , a dog named Buzz
a cat named Lily and a cat named Ms Kitty
are on a wooded scenic hillside at our house
Now Leo is there too.
I have heard this week of so many rattlesnakes in town on carports,
around swimming pools and near animal pens...
Being an older person you think one day it will get easier to handle
the grief but it never does when you love an animal and it dies.
