Our 8 year-old male cat (named Fuzzy) is leaking dime-sized spots of urine wherever he sits. Just over 2 weeks ago, Fuzzy had his 4th surgery to remove calcium oxalate bladder stones. The first 3 surgeries went beautifully with fast recoveries. This 4th one -- not so much. He had a large stone in his urethra that did not show on X-rays at our vet's or at the vet specialists' to whom our vet referred us. The vet specialists catheterized him for 48 hours, and the stone popped out when they removed the catheter. This was 5 days ago. He is urinating on his own, with frequent trips to the box. He is taking Buprenorphine for pain and Prazosin for urethral spasms. He went through quite a trauma, I know, and is still healing. Has anyone else's kitty experienced similar leaking? Did your kitty heal on his own, or did you need to seek further treatment? Thank you!

Yes, my cat had the same thing after multiple catheters and again 3 PU surgeries.  He would leak for a few days after until his bladder and it's sphincter regained tightness and control.  We didn't need to seek further treatment relating directly to incontinence, it just got better over time as he healed from his surgeries.

Prazosin "may" be part of the cause due to spasm inhibiting properties.

If you're really worried, take him back to the vet but if he doesn't seem to be straining or otherwise, the leakage should improve with time :)

@elise1030, you are so nice to respond. Thank you for sharing your experience. I am glad to hear that your cat healed on his own. You give me hope that our Fuzzy will, too. Thank you!

Just wanted to concur with @elise1030  . My cat also had a catheter for bladder crystals, no stones. He dribbled for about a week. The vet told me that it takes some time for them to regain their ability to hold in pee. He's never had that problem again. I hope your kitty feels better soon!

I need to know @rlavach how your cat was treated , how many catheters did he need? And how kong did it trake him\her to recover?
Coz i am in a country with poor animal care and vets are so usless and misleading

@Maysa  At first, he was catheterized on the initial visit for several days. He was completely blocked & no urine could come out. He came home with medication & I was verbally told to get him a food for cats with urinary issues. I was not told that it had to be Rx since the pet store stuff really doesn't help. So 1 week later, while still recovering, he blocked again. He was catheterized for another few days and came home again. It took probably 2 weeks or so from the 2nd visit to stop the dribbling completely. But I believe it took so long because he had a catheter twice in a short period of time. It is quite painful and irritating to them. If I had been given full information the 1st time, the 2nd occurrence could have been avoided.

He now eats Hills c/d wet food & is doing well. He had some flare ups recently (no blockage) because of the dry food. Once the dry food was cut out, he is totally good.
