It's kind of sweet and flattering, but the other kitties need attention too.
Examples of what I am talking about would be if he hears me talking to or giving another cat attention, he will almost always come over meowing and put himself between me and the other cat. He has even awakened himself from a nap to get up and do this when I was brushing one of the other cats. He won't come when I call him. He comes if he hears me calling another cat, though. Sometimes, I swear he even looks kind of mad if he sees me petting another cat.
He is obviously territorial in some kind of fashion.
The one and only time I had to put him in a brief time out was when he was chasing the senior cat around one day.
Is there any insight into this behavior and how he can be helped feel more secure, I guess? Is that a thing with cats?
