Kittens Mouth

Hello all,

I'm currently taking care of my friends kitten while hes out of the country. I've been around this cat before, but have never had a chance or a reason to really look at his physical condition. Upon looking at him a little closer, I noticed two things in his mouth that im not sure are normal. (images attached).
I have permission from my friend to bring his kitten to his vet if I need too, and Im just wondering if anyone knows what is going on in his mouth, and if it warrants a trip to the vet.

It almost looks like some type of ulcer on the kittys lip in the 1st pic. Its hard to see everything clearly. Is that what you are referring to? The 2nd pic, it that just gum discoloration under the canine tooth or is that an actual swelling to the area?
